Geyser erupts at Ascot as sprinkler bursts into life

Racing goes ahead after impromptu inspection

Ascot: unscheduled watering as pop-ip sprinker goes rogue on Saturday morning

Ascot turned into a water park for some ten minutes in a mini-drama ahead of racing on Saturday morning.

A lorry driving over one of the course's state-of-the-art pop-up sprinklers led to a spectacular 20-foot geyser soaking parts of Swinley Bottom, which is on the round course around the 7f pole.

Clerk of the course Chris Stickels reported: "We have held an inspection with trainers and jockeys and they were satisfied there were no safety issues so racing goes ahead."

Stickels added that the geyser lasted some ten minutes from the pop-up sprinkler on the inside of the Flat track, which they use in the first two races.
