French racing mourns the death of legendary photographer

Colleagues from the pressroom, trainers, jockeys and officials united at Deauville before racing yesterday to remember the life of veteran photographer Jean-Paul Bertrand, who has died at the age of 73.

An instantly recognisable figure with a winning sense of humour and a flair for his craft, Bertrand was the heart of the family-owned APRH agency in Chantilly.

Leading the tributes, France Galop president Edouard de Rothschild recalled that, in more than 50 years of his visiting Deauville, Bertrand had been a constant presence.
