There is never a good time for a jockey to get injured but apprentice Gemma Tutty had more reason to rue her bad luck after missing out on what would have been her 50th career winner at Newcastle on Tuesday evening.

Instead of celebrating her claim being cut to 3lb, Tutty had the double frustration of seeing her old ally Novabridge win under Connor Beasley.

Tutty's misfortune started on her way to post on Cool Strutter at Thirsk on Monday.

She said: "On the way to post I was taken out and pushed into the rail and it ripped through my tights and breeches and sliced a chunk of skin off my shin.

"I was patched up at the start and rode in the race [finishing third beaten half a length and a neck] but yesterday I couldn't get a riding boot on and was signed off so couldn't ride Novabridge."

"He would have been my 50th winner so I was sick as a pig but begrudgingly I have to say Connor gave him a peach of a ride."

Tutty has won three times on the ten-year-old and it would have been not only her 50th winner but also her first since she won on Novabridge at Newcastle in January, since when she has had just eight rides.

"I've got one ride at Redcar on Thursday and another at Newcastle on Friday and then hopefully something on bank holiday Monday," she added.
