Frankie Dettori's Aidan O'Brien-trained 2,000 Guineas mount now 11-1 (from 14-1)
The 2022 Flat season is picking up pace and it is full steam ahead to the first of the Classics – the Qipco 2,000 Guineas and 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket – on April 30 and May 1.
Market movers come thick and fast as the key Classic trials are run in Britain and Ireland, but big-race contenders can come from anywhere and it is easy to miss a potential dark horse. Our Classic Clues series, which runs every morning, has you covered.
Here's a recap of the action on Thursday and how it impacted the Classic betting, while we mark your card with key names to note on Friday.
News round-up: Native Trail leads the 2,000 Guineas charge
It was confirmed on Thursday that Native Trail will face a total of 14 rivals in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket, with the first Classic of the season just one day away.
Saturday's renewal is expected to be a fascinating contest and the Charlie Appleby-trained Coroebus and Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes winner Luxembourg are well supported.
Punters have also got behind Aidan O'Brien's second-string runner Point Lonsdale, whose chances were bolstered by the booking of Frankie Dettori. He was cut to 11-1 (from 14) after confirmation of the Italian's booking.
Dettori will be aiming to replicate the success of the last year, where he twice enjoyed Classic success with Ballydoyle outsiders Mother Earth in the 1,000 Guineas and Snowfall in the Cazoo Oaks.
Angel Bleu, Bayside Boy, Dr Zempf and Glounthaune were the four absentees at the declaration stage.
There were no Classic contendors at the track on Thursday but Royal Ascot hopeful Archiano enhanced his profile after winning a novice stakes at Lingfield.
The three-year-old, trained by Archie Watson, holds an early entry for the Commonwealth Cup on June 17.
Market movers
2,000 Guineas
Point Lonsdale, 11-1 (from 14)
Eydon, 20-1 (from 33)
Checkandchallenge, 22-1 (from 28)
What they said
David Egan, rider of 2,000 Guineas hopeful Eydon
He's got track experience which is a big help and he was impressive to break his maiden in a Listed race last time, which is hard to do. It's obviously a competitive race but we have confidence in our guy.
Andrew Hetherton, owner of Checkandchallenge
For me, it's an opportunity not to miss and it's always been in our minds that we could come here since he won at Wolverhampton. I was at Newcastle to see him win and he was very impressive that day, and William [Knight] has always spoken really highly of the horse.
All eyes on . . . 1,000 Guineas declarations
With the 2,000 Guineas declarations out the way, attention turns towards Newmarket's second Classic of the weekend, as declarations are released on Friday for the 1,000 Guineas.
Alongside declarations, stall draws and jockey bookings will shape the final field for Sunday's contest, with market-leader Tenebrism, Tuesday and Toy still without confirmed riders.
One expected absentee from Sunday's final line-up is Homeless Songs, after Dermot Weld confirmed the filly will instead head for the French Classic on May 15.
William Buick, who finished second in last season's jockeys' championship, will ride Godolphin's Wild Beauty, while third-place Tom Marquand will partner Zellie.
