Frankie Dettori says he has 'no chance' of a late Arc ride and tips Snowfall
Frankie Dettori says he thinks there is "no chance" of him picking up a ride in Sunday's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (3.05), his intended mount having become a non-runner overnight. Dettori, who was booked to ride Love, was collared by Matt Chapman for an interview with Sky Sports Racing as he stepped off the Longchamp turf on Sunday morning and nominated Snowfall as the horse he sees as the most likely winner.
"It's only the second time in 33 years that I'll miss the Arc," said the 50-year-old, whose record of six wins makes him the most successful rider in the race's history. "It's one of those things, but they're made of flesh and blood and she's not well, so she's not turning up. Unfortunately, they're not machines that you can just turn the key. Look, I'm still here, I've still got four good rides and I'll enjoy the day."
Dettori's first Arc ride was in 1988, aboard Roushayd, a pacemaker for Kahyasi. Since then, the only previous occasion the Arc was run without him was in 2013, when he broke his ankle in the previous week and was unable to partner Treve, the eventual winner.

Asked to assess how this year's race might pan out in his absence, Dettori said: "I was doing my homework, because I thought I was riding Love. It seems to me it's going to be a true-run Arc this year and I would say it's going to favour the closers, the horses that come from mid-div and the back, horses like Tarnawa and Snowfall."
Chapman invited Dettori to pick the horse he'd most like to ride if a rival jockey were to fall ill in the next two hours. "I don't like to think like that," he responded. "If I had the choice of the runners, I would stick with Snowfall. She gets all the weight allowances, she loves the soft, she romped home by 16 lengths in the Oaks. When the ground is like this, it really emphasises the weight. She's carrying no weight on this very soft ground and I think it'll make a big difference."
He nominated Kinross as the one of his remaining rides for which he holds the highest hopes. Ralph Beckett's four-year-old is a 5-1 shot for the Prix de la Foret, two hours after the Arc.
Dettori said the track walked as if it was "soft" but agreed with a suggestion that it may ride more testing than that, following 23mm of overnight rain.
