The Jockey Club is on the cusp of revealing its decision about the future of the Cheltenham Festival, with an announcement expected imminently on whether jump racing's premier meeting will be extended to five days.

A verdict on the controversial fifth day proposal will be delivered this week, sources have told the Racing Post. Senior Jockey Club figures have not sought to deny this but have also declined to give any indication regarding the outcome of a hugely important process that could result in the 2024 festival culminating with a new Saturday fixture highlighted by the Ryanair Chase.

However, senior industry figures outside the Jockey Club are in general agreement that they believe it is now more likely than not that this season's festival will be the last to take place over four days.
