Fixture list designed to boost levels of remote betting in 2017

The BHA yesterday published a 2017 fixture list designed to reflect changes in betting habits with a programme of 1,496 meetings that has driving up levels of remote gambling among its primary goals.

The first list compiled under the new tripartite structure of BHA, racecourses and horsemen contains 14 more meetings than in 2016 over 363 days, the biggest number of fixtures since a record 1,506 were programmed in 2010.

BHA chief executive Nick Rust said yesterday: "The committee felt greater consideration should be given to how the list could better support the sport’s strategic objective to grow racing and betting, especially remote betting."
