Bespoke bookmaker Fitzdares have acquired the off-course telephone business of Sunderlands, the well-known and respected firm founded in 1946, for an undisclosed sum.

The Sunderlands name will continue on course in partnership with John and Russell White.

Sunderlands was started as an on-course and credit betting operation by Pat Densham in 1946, with the firm's founder becoming a friend of a number of leading sportsmen at the time who enjoyed a bet, including Denis Compton, Godfrey Evans and Keith Miller.
