First internal strife then the HRI ban that means Kemboy can go nowhere

The Supreme Horse Racing Club has been a rapidly-rising force in jumping. This week what had seemed a one-way trajectory was severely interrupted. Based on what had been happening behind the scenes this was not a complete shock.

For at least two years there have been internal ructions within the syndication company, founded in 2011 by Steve Massey and Jim Balfry.

Some of its members made allegations of wrongdoing and impropriety. Not all those members were allowed to stay in the club, with a handful of them choosing to take legal steps as a way of obtaining money they have believed was due to them. At least one court hearing in relation to Supreme has already taken place.

Both Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) and the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board have for some time been taking an interest in Supreme, whose website on Thursday listed ownership of 29 horses.

Amidst claims some Supreme horses might be well over 100 per cent subscribed, HRI first contacted the organisation in August, requesting details relating to the membership of each individual animal. On October 7 HRI informed Supreme it could no longer make withdrawals from its HRI owner account. It was further warned its account would be suspended if all information was not provided by October 18.

That deadline passed without a satisfactory response being received, which has meant since Monday there has been a bar on all horses owned by Supreme being entered or declared for races, a block that applies to contests in Britain as well as Ireland.

As such, Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup favourite Kemboy, like every horse registered with the Supreme Horse Racing Club, is unable to race for the foreseeable future.
