The government is offering emergency funding to racing in England

£40 million of financial help from government for racing in England has to be good news in these desperate times but, as ever, the devil is in the detail and details are in short supply.

Much will depend on the terms of the loans and who is able to receive them, although the government's statement specified only racecourses, the group suffering the most financially from the lack of spectators.

This money, however, is badly needed by the entire racing industry and that will mean the sport must pull together over the next few weeks.
