Finalists announced for Richard Davis Awards

A raceday presenter, financial manager and training business owner have been unveiled as the finalists for the Jockey Club Achievement award, part of the Richard Davis Awards, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary.

The Jockey Club Achievement award showcases the variety of careers former jockeys can progress into.

Amateur rider Adele Mulrennan, wife of jockey Paul Mulrennan, is now the raceday presenter for Go Racing In Yorkshire, which she describes as her "dream job".

Mulrennan attended numerous media training courses provided by Jets during and after her riding career.

Former Flat rider Ben Swarbrick was the first former jockey to take part in the BHA Graduate Development Programme, working for the Racecourse Association, before switching careers to the financial sector. He now works as an associate partner for a FTSE 100 company.

The third finalist is Nicola Woolner, who enjoyed a successful career in Canada before returning to Britain. She has used her sports
background to work as a partner in a training and consultancy business.

The awards are named after the late jump jockey Richard Davis, who died in a fall at Southwell in 1996.

Davis's mother Ann said of the significant anniversary for the awards: "Richard was very forward-thinking regarding his career, so these awards seem a fitting tribute to the positive attitude towards career development that so many jockeys have shown over the years."

The Jockey Club Achievement Award is worth £3,000 to the winner, with £500 for the two runners-up.

In addition there is the Injured Jockeys Fund Progress Award winner and the inaugural British Racing School Current Jockey Continued Personal Development Award.

The winner and runners-up for all the awards will be announced on November 19 at Cheltenham.
