The field for this year's Racing Post/SIS Betting Shop Manager of the Year competition has been reduced to 48.

The managers through to the latest stage had their test papers marked before a judging panel made a final decision.

The 48 contenders will be subjected to a mystery-shopper visit after which the top three candidates from each of the eight regions in Britain and Ireland will be selected.

They will then be invited to a day at the races at Doncaster on October 25 to meet the judges before the eight regional champions are decided.

The winner will be crowned at an awards lunch at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on November 11 and will be invited to several key racing and betting occasions during their year as champion.

Lorraine Archibald, who won last year's competition, recently went to Singapore as part of her prize, and she said of her trip: "It was a memorable experience. The hotel we stayed at was amazing and everyone we met could not have been kinder.

"Kranji racecourse is completely different to any racecourse in Britain and Ireland, but it was fascinating finding out more about how racing and betting works in Singapore."
