Julian Muscat takes a tour around the much-in-demand Newmarket-themed Monopoly board

It is Monopoly with a twist. Players draw Charles II Statue cards instead of Chance cards, and the town’s historic stables have replaced London’s famous landmarks which featured on the original board game.

It is in demand, too. Orders for Newmarket Monopoly have already been dispatched to Australia and New Zealand, the US, Germany, Norway, and most recently Peru – although it’s hard to imagine why the chief of an indigenous Andean tribe would be interested in buying Warren Place.

As a way of promoting the 350th anniversary of racing in Newmarket, however, the game seems to have struck a chord. Within one month, more than half of the original stock order of 1,000 have been sold.
