Wonder of Frankel and intrigue of betting creates heady mix of racing highs

My earliest memory of racing is Granda watching it – a lot – and my granny shouting “that’s all you see on that TV from morning until night, horses running about a field”. To a certain extent I agreed – I had zero interest but there was never the option of turning the channel over!

As a keen footballer when I was younger I started betting on the sport at the weekends when I grew old enough. It was then through a betting perspective I started to think about racing. This just happened to coincide with a certain horse called Frankel who was beginning to show everyone how amazing he was – his 2011 Sussex Stakes win stands out.

After that Flat season I watched the Cheltenham Festival, and wow! Discovering this whole new side to racing was incredible, and left me baffled at how versatile horses are. Some sprinting over five furlongs and others slogging it out over three miles plus.
