I'm 88 now and have probably been at it for more than 50 years. I'm a farmer's son but never went into farming and I'm not sure what made me interested in racing.

My brother-in-law enjoyed it and, along with him and a farmer friend, the three of us bought a horse together and that was the one that got me going.

It was called Relic's Son and trained by Owen O'Neill in Cheltenham. We paid £1,000 and ran him several times, but he did no good. We then found he had a breathing problem, so he had a tube put in and on his next start at Newton Abbot he absolutely bolted up.
