Top-three finish in Hong Kong and Group 1 win the main aims

Jockey Neil Callan, 38, on his love of golf, what he misses about British racing and his ambitions

On your flying visit back to Britain is there anything you discovered you have missed now you're based in Hong Kong?
I miss riding at all the big festival meetings, especially Royal Ascot. It's the greatest week's racing in the world. What I don't miss is all the travelling.

What are your hopes for the 2016-17 season in Hong Kong and which horses are you most looking forward to riding?
I always want to do better every time I ride so hopefully I'll improve and finish in the top three in the jockeys' title race. I also have ridden a Group 1 winner each season I've been there so I want to keep that up. Blazing Speed has propelled my career in Hong Kong with three international Group 1 wins so hopefully he comes back for more this season.

Being based in Hong Kong, how do you find British racing is rated there? Are British Classics still seen as a holy grail or has money taken over in ranking races worldwide?
Of course they are seen as the holy grail because over the years Hong Kong owners and trainers scout these races to buy their next champions, but it's the most money gets them so it's a bit of both.
