Lunchtime 1973

Three years before he hit the heights with Derby winner Grundy, Peter Walwyn reckoned that Lunchtime was the best two-year-old he had ever trained.

And he was not the only one taken by the tall chestnut as the colt was winter favourite for the 2,000 Guineas and the Derby, having won all his three starts as a juvenile in 1972 culminating in an authoritative success in the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.
