Teahupoo equals Appreciate It's rating and becomes top Champion Hurdle contender
Teahupoo (165+) breathed some much needed life into next month's Champion Hurdle when running out an impressive winner of Saturday's Grade 3 Red Mills Trial Hurdle.
Given the progressive nature of his form – his winning RPRs for this season now read 149, 154 and 165 – he could easily turn out to be chief threat to Honeysuckle (173), his new mark giving him parity with last year's leading novice hurdler Appreciate It and 2020 heroine Epatante.
The leading British based two-mile hurdler on RPRs this season is Goshen (163) and, despite running to a mark a couple of pounds shy of that at the weekend, he deserves plenty of credit for giving weight and a beating to Adagio (157) in Wincanton's Grade 2 Matchbook Betting Exchange Kingwell Hurdle.
