The highlight of an excellent July festival was an excellent July Cup, an engrossing prize that added further weight to the resurgence of a top-end sprinting scene that had become, in the main, somewhat turgid but is now developing the sort of irresistible momentum that carried Limato to such a splendid victory.

In Saturday's Racing Post, two of our finest brains debated whether we are currently enjoying a golden era of sprinting.

We are not, but that is not to decry what we are enjoying.
