The season is only a few weeks old and has already seen a son of Galileo out of a Guineas-winning mare finish fourth in a Monksgrange open and a son of Canford Cliffs win a four-year-old maiden at Portrush.

Any suggestion that these were exceptions is beginning to look unlikely. At Tattersalls on Sunday, the opening four-year-old maiden went to the Denis Murphy-trained Chasing Fire, a son of Maxios.

The Castle Hyde Stud-based sire has a Racing Post stallion comment which reads: "smart 2yo over 1m, dual 8-9f G1 winner at 5, half-brother to Arc winner Bago; progeny progress well", with those last three words proving most relevant to the jumping sphere.
