Tony O'Hehir gets the lowdown from the Ballydoyle supremo
For Aidan O'Brien 2017 was the year of years, with horses trained at Ballydoyle amassing a world record total of 28 Group/Grade 1 wins. But for Enable's victories in the Oaks and the Irish Oaks O'Brien would have enjoyed a clean sweep of the Classics in Britain and Ireland.
Then was then and now is now, and O'Brien's powerful team of horses are gearing up for another season of top-level challenges across the world.
Next month will see O'Brien seeking another first in his remarkably successful career when Mendelssohn, who came through his Kentucky Derby trial with flying colours in the UAE Derby at Meydan, bids to give his trainer a first win in a US Triple Crown race at Churchill Downs.
