Super start to season has fire burning as bright as ever

At the best of times the Curragh can be a place where atmosphere is hard to generate, but when Kevin Prendergast rolled back the years to win last year's Irish 2,000 Guineas with Awtaad, the veteran trainer received an ovation that left the hairs standing on the back of the neck.

Many would forgive Prendergast, 84, if he were to swap the early mornings on the gallops for pipe and slippers but this is a man busy plotting his next big victory and he isn't slowing down.

After landing the opening two-year-old race of the season at Naas with Moonlight Bay, the trainer says the juvenile department will represent him best this season.
