Considering all of April and May were wiped out, it was no mean feat for Roger Varian to clock up 115 winners on home soil and more than £1.8 million in prize-money last year.

Among his highlights were four winners at Royal Ascot – including a treble on day three – Fujaira Prince's success in the Ebor and scooping Group races at home and abroad with Angel Power and Believe In Love.

The main omission was a top-level winner, with 2020 just the second year since he started training in 2011 in which the Classic-winning trainer has failed to hit the Group 1 target.
