The blueprint for Andrew Balding’s career is firmly established. It’s a yard that takes in young horses with an eye on the longer term, as is evidenced by the fact Balding trains more than 50 horses aged four or older.

There have been some interesting new recruits this year, among them Cleonte from Andre Fabre, Donjuan Triumphant from Richard Fahey and Beat The Bank, who was bought from Ireland before he won a competitive 7f conditions race at the Newmarket Craven meeting.

Balding opened this year on the back of a successful 2016, during which the stable topped 100 winners for the second time. His team of well-balanced older horses is supplemented by a collection of lightly raced sophomores Balding is so adept at exploiting.
