'It's exciting to see where he'll end up - he's only five'
A lot has changed since Harry Fry left Paul Nicholls to set up on his own. He has welcomed a daughter into the world, claimed seven Grade 1 victories and trained nearly 400 winners in the intervening nine years.
Yet this season he is doing something he has never done before by going into battle without Unowhatimeanharry among his troops. The four-time winner at the highest level is still present at Higher Crockermoor, thanks to the generosity of owner JP McManus in gifting him to the Fry family, but it is time for a new flagbearer to step up.
That horse may just be Metier, who is already a Grade 1 winner himself thanks to last season's Tolworth success. The five-year-old disappointed in the Supreme, but Fry admits there were problems with his string at the time, saying: "The Tolworth was a highlight, but the horses weren't quite right going into the spring."
