The Jackdaws Castle maestro tells Lewis Porteous about his young squad

Out of a team of 120 at Jackdaws Castle, 35 started the season as unraced four-year-olds, while a further 34 were ready to go novice hurdling, so there are plenty of new names to introduce.

Jonjo O'Neill identified some years ago that the production line at Jackdaws needed restocking and every year since he has been investing for the future.

He has had to be patient, having bought plenty of unraced store horses along the way, but this is the first season for some time that all 120 horses at Jackdaws are due to see the racecourse. When you look at some of their pedigrees and price tags, it is easy to understand why their trainer loves the game as much as ever at the age of 70.
