'He's best fresh and I wouldn't mind taking on Put The Kettle On in the Shloer'

I hate making mistakes but I think I made a pig's ear of running in the Persian War at Chepstow – the track didn't suit him and it just didn't happen. I wish I'd gone to Kempton for the Listed novice hurdle the week after. I didn't want to risk him on good ground but Kempton ended up being beautiful ground and I made the wrong decision. He's a novice over hurdles so I can go anywhere I like with him. I'll find a novice hurdle to run him in with a penalty and he's actually got a lot of ability.

He won his bumper first time out last year but ran far too free on his second run in the spring. He looks great now, has done lots of jumping and will be ready to run in a novice hurdle in three weeks' time. One day he'll make a lovely two-mile chaser.

He had a few jumping issues last season but I was chuffed with him at Ffos Las the other day, when the flat track suited him and he jumped brilliantly. I still thought it was a bit harsh to put his handicap mark up 5lb considering the second-favourite fell. He's high enough anyway so why not give him a chance? He'll go to Newbury now for the two-and-a-half-mile Grade 2 novice chase at the Ladbrokes Trophy meeting, where the galloping track will suit him well. It's taken a while for things to come together but I like this horse.
