David Pipe may be best associated with steely staying chasers but all the talk going into the trainer's 15th season is in fact about a speedy two-mile hurdler.
It was Adagio who brought the buzz of a Grade 1 winner back to Pond House when successful in the Finale Juvenile Hurdle at Chepstow, soon followed by two good seconds at Cheltenham and Aintree.
He stamped his name back as a high-calibre hurdler at Cheltenham last Sunday, getting within three-quarters of a length of Greatwood Hurdle glory off top weight. Pipe trained Osana to finish second in that very race and he would go on to fill the same spot in the Champion Hurdle that season. Perhaps similar things await.
