Charlie Appleby may have been an important part of the Godolphin operation for nearly 20 years, but his name has only been above the door at Moulton Paddocks since 2013.

Now entering his fourth season, Appleby has made an impact both domestically and abroad, sending out big-race winners in America, Dubai and Australia, and bagged his first Group 1 of the year with Polarisation in the Sydney Cup at Randwick last month.

A shift in priorities means quality has been prioritised over quantity, so, although Appleby only had 70 winners last year in Britain compared to 151 the year before, the plan is for those winners to be able to go on to bigger and better things.
