Last season presented challenges that trainers have never before encountered but few emerged from 2020 in as good shape as Joseph O’Brien.
Not only did he better his best tally of domestic turf winners by sending out 82 winners, despite having 47 fewer runners compared to 2019, but O’Brien also snared a second Melbourne Cup when Twilight Payment followed on from the success of Rekindling in 2017.
O’Brien added another Classic to his already glittering CV when Galileo Chrome landed a pulsating St Leger at Doncaster and there is promise of more to come with Thunder Moon and Pretty Gorgeous leading contenders for the 2,000 and 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket.
