Classic candidates among exciting team tasked with building on best season

The Kingsclere trainer on his expanding string for 2019

After his best year in 2018, Andrew Balding hopes to build on the success that has seen his string reach 200 horses for the first time.

Balding topped his previous record of 119 winners in Britain in 2014 with 123 winners last year, totalling £2,601,152 in prize-money, and has a particularly exciting three-year-old team for this campaign, including potential Classic candidates Bangkok, Bell Rock and Fox Tal.

He said: “You can only train what you’re sent and to put it simply we had a lot better horses. If they can stay healthy this year they’re a very strong team.
