Skitter Scatter team can dream big after glories of Irish Champions weekend
The unfortunate career-ending injuries to Alpha Centauri and Saxon Warrior at Leopardstown took some of the gloss off day one of Longines Irish Champions weekend when both horses bowed out with thoroughly game performances in the circumstance having, to different degrees, performed well at the highest level throughout the season.
With her four impressive Group 1 wins on the bounce, Alpha Centauri has to be favourite for Ireland’s Horse of the Year gong in December and, although Saxon Warrior failed to add to his Qipco 2,000 Guineas win, he went out on a high at Leopardstown where he briefly appeared to have stolen a march on old rival Roaring Lion early in the straight before leaning towards the rail due to his tendon injury.
That he almost clung on without Ryan Moore going for his whip spoke volumes for his courage.
