'She's the standout' - Barry Geraghty joins the panel to review the weekend
Is Epatante your idea of a repeat Champion Hurdle winner?
James Ewart, trainer Epatante is only a six-year-old and has been lightly raced so is still improving. She's undoubtedly the one to beat in terms of current form and as holder of the Champion Hurdle crown. Her mares’ allowance is a big help as you would need a 170+ BHA rating to beat her.
Barry Geraghty, former jockey She definitely sets the standard. She did all you would expect and more in the Fighting Fifth and she's the standout in the Champion Hurdle this season. It took Buveur D’Air a while to get the respect he deserves and it’s a bit similar with Epatante now, but there should be even more improvement in her.
Sam Waley-Cohen, amateurjockey Epatante put up a very impressive performance but she's way too short in the betting, especially with Buveur D’Air coming back. I think she’ll have stiffer competition to beat before she can claim the crown again.
