'Saxon Warrior is the real deal and looks the one to beat in the Classics'
Declan McDonogh, Ed Vaughan and Ben Curtis discuss this week's hottest topics
Do you think we could have seen a Classic winner in the Racing Post Trophy?
Pat Cooney, bet365 spokesman
Possibly but of course it’s odds against from an odds compilation viewpoint. The race has been the best Derby trial this season, so Saxon Warrior is a worthy favourite, and whilst the market indicated no confidence behind The Pentagon on the day, he showed more than enough promise to be kept on side
in 2018.
Ben Curtis, jockey
I definitely think Saxon Warrior is the real deal and the one to beat in the Classics next year. He showed a great attitude to get back up and it was only his third start. He looks to have so much speed that I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he was good enough to win the Guineas.
Sylvester Kirk, trainer
We might have seen more than one – it looked like a vintage Racing Post Trophy so I expect the first three could all feature in the major European Classics next year.
