Rory Mahon: the man who put Enable and Frankel on the road to greatness

Rory Mahon isn’t very good at feigning indifference.
As a yearling colt by Sea The Stars stands before him, he outlines the bay’s attributes in matter-of-fact tones. “Good limbs, great temperament, a quick learner, very relaxed,” he says. But the longer his eyes linger, the harder it becomes for Mahon to contain himself.
His voice lowers an octave and he says with feeling: “A beautiful colt. Everything about him is right. We’ve just started breaking him, and with no setbacks you can nearly guarantee he will be one of the first to go into training in January.”
