Rhododendron heads O'Brien's Guineas team but Hydrangea the value
Aidan O'Brien took longer to crack the Qipco 1,000 Guineas than any of the other British Classics, with the first of his three winners of the race coming in 2005 when Kieren Fallon scored on 12-1 shot Virginia Waters.
Homecoming Queen, at 25-1, followed in 2012 with an amazing performance, making all for a nine-length victory. Neither Virginia Waters nor Homecoming Queen set the world on fire after their Newmarket triumphs but Minding, who delivered 12 months ago, certainly did, going on to register another four Group 1 wins during the campaign.
Today Rhododendron, without a run this season, heads a team of three from Ballydoyle, with Hydrangea and Winter – first and second in the Leopardstown 1,000 Guineas Trial last month – also lining up.
