Stricter regulation hit online betting and gaming company 888's revenues in the United Kingdom in the first half of the year, sending the firm's share price plummeting last week.

Group revenue increased by one per cent to $273.2 million (approx £209m) while adjusted underlying earnings rose by ten per cent to $52.4m. However, revenue in the UK fell by 18 per cent to $86.5m.

Last year 888 were hit with a record penalty of £7.8m by the Gambling Commission for "serious failings" in the safeguarding of their customers.
