Record-breaking effort from Minzaal on quick ground as Owen Burrows team shines

With a smaller team than he's been used to, Owen Burrows is having the best year of his career, Minzaal providing the second Group 1 of the trainer's summer by storming clear in the Sprint Cup at Haydock.

The race has produced plenty of soft-ground, slow-motion finishes over the years but was run on an unusually quick surface this time, allowing the winner to break the course record, although the time was taken by hand.

Naval Crown was thought likely to relish the return to fast ground but ran no race and beat one home, William Buick reporting that he was never travelling. Emaraaty Ana, who narrowly denied Starman in last year's running, was held by three and three-quarter lengths this time behind a winner who appears to be really special.
