'Proven stamina came to the fore' - Eldar Eldarov proves too strong in St Leger
A rough renewal of the Cazoo St Leger saw proven stamina come to the fore, as the Queen's Vase winner Eldar Eldarov proved too strong for the unexposed Haskoy and favourite New London, to post an improved Racing Post Rating of 117+.
As St Leger figures go, that's on the low side, reflecting the messy nature of the race, with the proximity of upgraded staying handicapper Giavellotto in fourth and Derby also-ran El Habeeb in sixth making it hard to take too positive a view of the form.
Eldar Eldarov still has the potential to rate higher though and if kept on the staying track, he should make an impact in Cup races next year, while the demoted runner-up Haskoy is clearly still headed in the right direction with an RPR of 111 on just her third start.
