Bargain-buy Saucy Kit strikes it rich in Champion Hurdle

Peter Easterby won the 1965 King's Stand with Goldhill before the Royal Ascot sprint was awarded Group 1 status, but his first major success came with the cheaply bought Saucy Kit in the Champion Hurdle two years later.

The 720gns purchase, a notoriously hard puller, was limited on the Flat but proved a totally different proposition over jumps, winning ten races.
