Perseverance pays off for Luke Humphrey as he snaps 73-race winless streak

After 73 winless rides, Luke Humphrey was in no mood to let a cherished first victory go quietly.

Following the long-awaited success – which came at Revesby Park in Lincolnshire on Sunday – Humphrey, 33, cantered back along the finishing straight with a plan in mind.

He said: "I'd had plenty of time to think about what I'd do if I ever rode a winner [since his pointing debut in February 2017], and there was a group of small kids who were cheering me on, so I rode down the course and threw them my goggles. A young girl picked them up and seemed pleased as punch."
