This has been a vintage year for record-breakers, with the following dozen being particularly impressive – although not as impressive as Russell Baze, the world's winningmost jockey who retired in June with a score of 12,844.

12 Andrea Atzeni
By landing the Racing Post Trophy on Rivet at Doncaster on October 22, Andrea Atzeni became the first jockey to win the same British Group 1 race four consecutive times since the European Pattern was created in 1971.

11 Megalala
When Megalala scored the 20th victory of his career in a Lingfield all-weather handicap on June 18, the 15-year-old became probably the oldest horse to win on the Flat in Britain since World War II.
