Tom Chatfeild-Roberts, the man who slotted one past the defences of England footballer Michael Owen in a charity race at Ascot last Friday, was up until 4am the following morning.
Sleep did not follow wild celebrations, because Chatfeild-Roberts, a familiar face on the Midlands point-to-point circuit, qualified as a veterinary surgeon earlier this year and his nocturnal wanderings involved "attending to a few colics".
Those who watched the Prince's Trust charity race could tell the vet was no mean rider, as his record of 25 wins from 124 rides in points suggests, and he must be good over a fence for he has suffered just one fall and three unseats since he began as a novice.
