When parading not far off 100 horses at his typically lavish and enjoyable owners' day on Sunday champion jumps trainer Paul Nicholls made clear his squad this season is all about the future.

The chief entertainer during the subsequent lunch did not quite fall into that bracket.

For headlining on the Ditcheat stage was none other than Mr Bobby Davro, the far from politically correct former star of Saturday night telly and the 2010 series of Dancing On Ice, who had his audience in stitches, not least when poking gentle fun at Nicholls himself.
