Festival Legends: Get Me Out Of Here
The festival would be nothing without its winners, but also nothing without its gallant losers, and with four seven-race cards these days, there are a lot of losers to choose from. Some finish out with the washing, some don't finish at all, but there are those who, but for the fickleness of the racing gods and a few feet of Gloucestershire turf, would be winners, and deserving winners at that, after all they gave for the cause.
Get Me Out Of Here was just such a horse, a five-time loser at the meeting, four times a runner-up, but agonisingly close to success on a regular basis and so nearly included in this unofficial List of Legends as a four-time winner for Jonjo O'Neill.
The one blot on the roll of honour was 2013, when the nine-year-old found himself a little out of his depth in Solwhit's World Hurdle and was pulled up before the last, but other than that it was borderline glory every time, beginning in 2010, in a stellar Supreme Novices' Hurdle, when he got the better of red-hot favourite Dunguib only to be pipped by 12-1 shot Menorah.
