Mr Mantilla could make it another Cheltenham family affair for team Devereux
In a week when the HRI Awards recognised the heart-warming achievements of the O’Sullivan family in winning this year’s Foxhunter at the Cheltenham Festival it is possible another family venture could emerge as a leading candidate for the 2021 race.
Families have often fared well in the discipline's showpiece event. Colman Sweeney and his father Rodger triumphed with Salsify in successive years in 2012 and 2013, before James Smyth scored on his father’s Tammys Hill in 2014.
Vinny Devereux and his father Jimmy are currently chasing the dream with their six-year-old son of Publisher, Mr Mantilla. After failing to find a new buyer at the Tattersalls Cheltenham November Sale last year, when he was led out of the ring unsold at £34,000 following his maiden success at Knockmullen House, he has now won five of his six career starts.
