There is a long way to go before jump racing in the north returns to the heady days, but following a period of decline the region is fighting back.

The results on the track have been there for all to see with last season's Grade 1 winners Waiting Patiently, Sam Spinner and Simply Ned picking up the baton from Grand National hero One For Arthur in 2016-17.

Other big-race victories were achieved last term by trainers in the north and there is a general feeling of optimism building for the core season. With that in mind, here are five northern jumpers capable of making their mark.
