Moore mad for it with twin assault on Tingle Creek
Julian Muscat talks to the trainer bidding for another Sandown success
Madness. Gary Moore reckons that would be his late father’s description of the investment he has made in Cisswood Racing Stables in West Sussex. It’s a world away from the training set-up run by Charlie Moore near Brighton racecourse until his retirement in 1997.
“Dad did it on a shoestring,” says Moore, who bought the purpose-built property from Charlie Cyzer eight years ago. “We’d get up early and gallop the horses in a farmer’s field back then. I’d like to think we’ve come on from those days, happy as they were.”
Moore’s assertion is evident by his involvement in Saturday’s Betfair Tingle Creek Chase. Of his two runners, Sire De Grugy needs no introduction as he bids to win the race for the third time. But the second might almost have been named with a nod to Moore’s father, who thought training racehorses was strictly for the certifiable.
