This 11-year-old sprinter is seeking a first win of the season but there was a lot to like about this performance, which suggests he is definitely capable of landing a Class 4 race in the coming weeks. He travelled strongly throughout but was denied a clear run at a crucial stage entering the final furlong. He won three times last season and has been given a chance by the handicapper with this effort coming off a rating 9lb lower than his last winning mark.

A tactical race run over seven furlongs proved to be an insufficient test for this strong galloper, who was making serious inroads into winner Buckstay’s lead in the final strides. With this being just his seventh race he is open to further improvement and I would expect him to be at least half a stone better back over a mile in a strongly run race. His long-term target could be the extremely valuable Balmoral Handicap run on Champions Day at Ascot.

Making his Group 1 debut, despite racing keenly in the early stages he finished the race strongly enough to suggest he was not inconvenienced by 1m2½f, the longest distance he’s encountered this season. This upwardly mobile five-year-old is equally effective over a mile and could achieve a breakthrough win at the highest level this season.

This filly was only three-quarters of a length behind the third in this valuable handicap and ran better than the bare form indicates. After making a slow start she faced an uphill task and still had plenty of work to do turning for home when at the back of the field. She made rapid headway on the inner two out and was chasing the leaders entering the final furlong before her challenge flattened out close home.

Showed up well for a long way in this 7f Group 3. He disputed the lead but lacked the speed of some of his rivals in the closing stages on going that would have been quicker than ideal. He won a Listed race on soft ground at Chester earlier this season and is one to watch back on an easy surface.
