High media rights costs and worries about the government's review of gambling were chief among the concerns voiced in Chisholm Bookmakers' latest set of accounts posted with Companies House.

Increased costs had led to the closure of a number of small shops, the company said, as they had become "unviable".

Profit for the year to April 30 after taxation was £62,958, down 21 per cent, while turnover of £45.58m was down 2.7 per cent on the previous year.
